Duntrian
Duntrian culture started taking shape c. 75 DCplugin-autotooltip__default plugin-autotooltip_bigDC
An abbreviation of Diminished Callisae. One of the two time periods tracked by the common Aedelorian calendar. This is a dating method which counts the number of years after the Withering., originating in the Ashbow Mountains northwest of what would become the Duntry region of Valdar. Approximately 2.5 million people in Aedelor are Duntrian, primarily living in the Kingdom of Duntry. Duntrians are primarily human (~85%), with elfkin (~5%) and giantkin (~5%) minorities.
The Duntrian people descend from ancient peoples serving the giants that lived in the Ashbow Mountains which stretch between Kamazar and Islingar. After the events of the Withering, they descended from the mountains seeking a home that would be more hospitable than the mountains without their giant masters. Those who travelled east to present-day Duntry found the most success, conquering the region from Zamerian peoples who had previously settled it.
While initially many loose-knit tribes, Duntrian cultural identity emerged when they were united under a single Duntrian king. Though their culture has evolved through their time as part of the Valdarian Empire, the core traditions and facets of Duntrian life have largely gone unchanged since this time.
Their banner depicts a hippogriff, a creature which they brought with them from the mountains and has been instrumental in their military pursuits.
Symbology
Banner: A blue feathered hippogriff with grey horse hindquarters rampant over dark blue crossed stripes, with a red base.
Colours: Red, blue
Motto: “From earth to sky steadfast we fly”
Values: Valiant, Steadfast, Trustworthy
History: Duntrian history has been marked significantly by the taming of hippogriffs and incorporation into their lives, and they have sought to emulate some of their greatest traits, as seen in their values. The hippogriffs are their primary source of might and advantage, and their riders are held in high honour in society. For this reason, it is only fitting that one appears on their banners. While hippogriffs can be many different colours and coats, the blue one pictured was known as Fionnbharr Bluesong the Fierce, companion of the first einithain, Fionnbharr Geargain.
